How to Get to Nusa Penida Island
How to Get to Nusa Penida Island
You can travel to Nusa Penida Island by various boats and ships from the port. The simplest option is to choose a fast boat. Currently, three major fast boat companies operate routes to Nusa Penida Island: Maruti Express, Angel’s Billabong Fast Cruise, and Mola-Mola Express. You can buy tickets at the dock, but it’s advisable to check which company has a suitable schedule for your itinerary one day in advance.

Fast boats depart from Sanur Beach and will get you to Nusa Penida in under an hour. A fast boat ticket costs around IDR 150,000 (245,000 VND) and they operate hourly, from 7 AM to 4 PM.

Getting Around Nusa Penida Island
Once you arrive at the port on Nusa Penida Island, to reach the various attractions, your group will still need to travel quite a long distance by car. Additionally, the roads on the island are very bumpy and challenging, making travel to the sights quite tiring and time-consuming.

If you’re exploring Nusa Penida Island independently, you can opt to rent a scooter or a car on the island. Renting a scooter costs around IDR 50,000 – 100,000 per day (approximately 80,000-160,000 VND), giving you the freedom to move around and sightsee as you please. However, as mentioned, the roads on the island are very poor. If you’re not an experienced rider or unfamiliar with the terrain, you should seriously consider this before renting a scooter.
Renting a car will be more expensive than a scooter, at about IDR 550,000 per day (nearly 900,000 VND), but it will be faster and safer. If you’re traveling in a group, renting a car would be a more reasonable choice.

Kelingking – Asia’s Second Most Beautiful Beach
Have you heard of the “T-Rex’s Back” in Nusa Penida? It refers to Kelingking Beach, a landmark that has become synonymous with Nusa Penida Island. The scenery here is absolutely stunning, though visitors are advised not to swim as it’s not safe due to strong currents. When visiting Kelingking, you can choose elevated vantage points to capture the entire magnificent “T-Rex’s Back” in your photos.

Angel’s Billabong – An Infinity Pool Between Bali’s Islands
Angel’s Billabong is also located on the west side of Nusa Penida Island, about 15 km from Kelingking Beach. This is a natural infinity pool crafted by nature, where saltwater and freshwater converge, creating unique, opposing bands of color, much like other infinite currents around the world. Its distinctiveness is what makes it so special.

The ideal time to visit Angel’s Billabong is around 8-9 AM on sunny days. It’s crucial to note that you should avoid visiting Angel’s Billabong during high tide. During this time, the waves rise significantly, making it impossible for visitors to swim in the clear blue water; you can only observe it from a distance. More importantly, sudden high tides can violently crash against the cliffs, posing extreme danger to visitors. And of course, the scenery won’t be as impressive as on sunny days when the tide is low.

When Exploring Nusa Penida Island, Don’t Forget to Check In at Broken Beach

Next to Angel’s Billabong, you definitely shouldn’t miss Broken Beach. The reason for its name is the natural archway surrounding the bay, allowing ocean water to flow in and out, creating a truly unique and magnificent spectacle.
From the cliffs, if the tide is low, you can look down and spot various fish swimming! Walk across the natural rock bridge and watch the powerful waves crash against the rocks, forming foamy surges through the incredibly beautiful turquoise water. This is also an ideal spot to capture impressive photographs.
