With a Vietnamese passport in hand, you can set foot in 55 countries and territories for a specific period without needing a visa, subject to certain conditions:
- Vietnamese passport holders must have a passport valid for at least 6 months.
- The purpose of the visit must be tourism.

Countries Issuing Visa on Arrival or Conditional Visa Exemption
Republic of Maldives (island nation in the Pacific Ocean):
- Immigration officers will stamp a 30-day visa exemption in your passport upon presentation of a round-trip ticket and hotel reservation.
- They also add an “Employment Prohibited” stamp to prevent workers from illegally working there on this type of tourist entry visa.
East Timor:
- At East Timor Airport, customs will issue you an entry visa for a fee of 30 USD.
- Please note that you must present a round-trip ticket and 100 USD for each entry. (The 100 USD only needs to be shown, not paid.)
Nepal:
- Visa is issued at the border gate with a stay period of 15 to 90 days.
- At Kathmandu Airport, you need to present 2 passport-sized photos and have 1 blank page in your passport to obtain a visa with a 90-day stay period.
Sri Lanka:
- You only need to apply for a visa online, pay the visa fee with a bank card, wait for the result, print the confirmation and bring it to the airport to complete the procedures for flying to Sri Lanka.
United Arab Emirates (UAE):
- If you use tickets from Emirates or Etihad to fly from Vietnam to Dubai or Abu Dhabi, you can easily apply for a visa online or ask the offices of these two airlines for guidance on how to obtain a visa.
- If you transit in the UAE, you can also purchase Stop Over packages of no more than 96 hours that include the visa.
Iran:
- Vietnamese citizens can obtain a visa at the Iran border gate valid for 17 days with 40 Euros. When entering the capital Tehran, you may need to present passport-sized photos.
Burundi:
- A 30-day visa is issued at Bujumbura Airport.
South Korea:
- Visa exemption for Vietnamese tourists flying directly from Vietnam to Jeju Island.
- Tourists wishing to visit destinations outside Jeju need to apply for a South Korean visa.
Somalia:
- To obtain a 30-day stay visa at the airport in Somalia, Vietnamese citizens need to send a letter to the airport’s immigration department 2 days before your arrival.
Taiwan:
- Vietnamese citizens (who have never worked abroad) with a valid visa from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and Schengen European visa (including residence card) will be exempt from Taiwan’s entry visa for a stay of 30 days.

Countries/Territories Granting Visa to Vietnamese Citizens Without Fees
Serbia, Republic of North Macedonia, Moldova are countries that grant visas to Vietnamese citizens with valid passports and without fees.
Traveling to visa-free countries allows Vietnamese citizens to experience new horizons with streamlined administrative procedures. It also creates favorable conditions if you want to enter other “picky” countries in granting visas to Vietnamese citizens.
► Note that visa exemption does not mean that you will be allowed to enter by the airport, land, or sea customs department.
Usually, you should comply with regulations such as not carrying prohibited items related to international law and local law, dressing politely, having a round-trip ticket, hotel reservation confirmation, etc.
