How Tall is Ong Ket Mountain?
Ong Ket Mountain, also known as Nui Ket, stands over 225 meters high and spans more than 1,100 meters in length and width. It’s located in Nha Bang Town, Tinh Bien District, approximately 70 kilometers west of Long Xuyen City center. To get there, you take National Highway 91 and then turn onto Provincial Road 948.
At an elevation of about 100 meters on the western face of Anh Vu Son (another name for the mountain), there’s a massive rock formation that protrudes outwards. From a distance, it resembles a parrot’s beak, which is why locals affectionately call it “Ong Ket Mountain”.
The Legend of An Giang’s Most Mysterious Mountain
Dubbed the most mysterious mountain in An Giang, Ong Ket Mountain has been home to many revered figures throughout history. In the past, prominent personalities renowned across Southern Vietnam, such as Doan Minh Huyen (Phat Thay Tay An)—founder of the Buu Son Ky Huong sect—and Cu Da—a martial arts scholar who participated in the resistance against the French—as well as Duc Huynh Phu So—founder of the Hoa Hao Buddhist sect—all sojourned on this mountain. Their shrines can still be found here today.

The mountain’s mystique stems from a large, upright rock formation on its summit that resembles the head of a giant parrot. For people in the Mekong Delta, it’s the sacred and mysterious tales associated with the mountain that truly define it. It’s believed that with each passing year, the “parrot’s beak” on the mountain’s peak gradually shifts. When the mountain’s head eventually turns towards Cam Mountain, it is said that the times will change.
