Ayung River in Bali, Indonesia
Bali is not only famous for its crystal-clear islands or ancient temples; it also attracts tourists with majestic waterfalls and thrilling adventure games. Among these, the white water rafting tour on the river draws a large number of visitors looking for an exciting experience.

There are two rivers for tourists to choose from for white water rafting in Bali, Indonesia:
- White water rafting on the Ayung River, near the ancient capital of Ubud: This river boasts romantic and picturesque scenery along its banks, with beautiful resorts interspersed with lush rice terraces, hidden waterfalls, and artistically carved cliffs. This is also where my group went rafting during our recent 4-day, 3-night Bali trip.

- Alternatively, you can go white water rafting on the Tegala Waja River, which originates from Mount Agung. This route winds through wild tropical forests, clear streams, and challenging waterfalls.
The Ayung River is the longest river on the Indonesian island of Bali. It stretches 68.5 km from the northern mountain ranges, flowing through the Bangli, Badung, Gianyar regencies, and Denpasar city, before emptying into the Badung Strait at Sanur. The river is renowned for its white water rapids and the stunning scenery along both banks, attracting tourists from near and far.

Super Thrilling: White Water Rafting in Bali, Indonesia
The white water rafting tour on the Ayung River was an incredibly thrilling experience during my family’s trip to Bali, Indonesia this summer. It was absolutely fantastic to spend several hours drifting down the river, navigating rapids, and immersing ourselves in the stunning tropical jungle that lines both banks of the Ayung.

Before starting this thrilling adventure, each person receives a waterproof bag for their phone, a life jacket, and a helmet to ensure safety during the white water rafting experience on the Ayung River.
First, each participant gets instructions on how to coordinate and move, remembering commands like “forward,” “backward,” “duck,” or “lean back.” Of course, you need to listen and absolutely follow your guide’s instructions. After that, the group begins the rubber rafting tour on the Ayung River, covering about 10km. The long duration of the activity meant I went through a full range of emotions!

The river’s current during the rainy season is quite fast and strong, and while the riverbed isn’t too deep, it’s rugged with many rocks. Our rubber raft surged forward, hitting boulders, spinning around. Everyone worked together to push the boat off, only for it to dart off again. The shouts, cheers, joyful laughter, and the rhythmic splash of paddles echoed vibrantly throughout that stretch of the river.

We all had to constantly use our paddles to push the raft past the rocky rapids. Each team not only navigated the challenges but also competed with one another, making the white water rafting experience in Bali, Indonesia even more exciting.
As thrilling and engaging as it was, the beautiful scenery on both sides of the river captivated us just as much. The stunning Ayung River flows between towering mountainsides, with newly planted rice terraces, lush green jungles, and hidden waterfalls cascading beautifully from above.

At the end of the white water rafting adventure in Bali, Indonesia, it wasn’t just me; every single tourist who experienced it felt equally excited and satisfied.

Tips for White Water Rafting in Bali, Indonesia
Tourists typically dedicate a full day to each white water rafting tour, which usually lasts about 2 hours covering a river stretch of 10-12km, depending on the specific tour and the starting point of the tour operator. Guests are gathered and travel together, forming teams, usually 4-5 people per inflatable raft. Each raft has a dedicated guide, and it’s crucial to absolutely remember and follow their commands.

For the Ayung River white water rafting tour, companies typically offer both morning and afternoon trips. The tour on the Telaga Waja River, which has a faster and more turbulent current than the Ayung, only operates in the morning and concludes in the afternoon.
White water rafting on the Ayung River is an activity that demands teamwork, a sense of adventure, and courage. Therefore, families with elderly members or young children should consider this carefully before participating.
