The Legend of Ông Két Mountain in An Giang
The legend of Ông Két Mountain in An Giang is closely associated with the sacred image of Ông Két’s beak, a giant rock tens of meters high protruding from the mountain’s peak, shaped like a giant parakeet (parrot). According to folklore, this mountain is not only a majestic natural site but also a sacred land, the abode of deities.

Legend has it that in ancient times, a giant parakeet flew down from the heavens to this mountain and turned to stone. The parakeet’s head faces the plains as if protecting the people from disasters and natural calamities. It is believed that Ông Két’s beak is a symbol of protection and blessings for the land of An Giang. Villagers often hold rituals to give thanks and pray for the protection of the Parakeet Deity.
Additionally, legend also tells that sincere individuals who come to Ông Két’s beak, if they pray wholeheartedly, will receive protection and good fortune in life. Therefore, Ông Két Mountain is not only a tourist destination but also a spiritual destination for many pilgrims from near and far to worship and pray.

How is Ông Két Mountain different in the past and present?
Ông Két Mountain in the past and present has a clear difference. According to many locals living at the foot of Két Mountain, in the past, Ông Két’s beak faced the road, meaning it faced the plains. But in recent decades, Ông Két’s beak has turned towards Cấm Moutain (Thiên Cấm Sơn peak).

The strange transformation of Ông Két Mountain has made the prophecy of Phật Thầy Tây An from hundreds of years ago even more believed and passed down by many locals to this day.

Is Ông Két’s Beak Turning toward Cấm Mountain a Spiritual Omen in the Thất Sơn Region?
For those who may not know, Đức Phật Thầy Tây An (Mr. Đoàn Minh Huyên) is the founder of the Bửu Sơn Kỳ Hương religion – one of the religions of the people in the Thất Sơn Bảy Núi area. He once went to Ông Két Mountain to cultivate his spiritual practice and is also the one who prophesied the spiritual stories on Két Mountain, including the spiritual omen of Ông Két’s beak turning towards Cấm Moutain.
According to the Bửu Sơn Kỳ Hương religion of Phật Thầy Tây An, which was prophesied over a hundred years ago: “In the future, the Hạ Ngươn period will come, humans will wage wars everywhere, and families will suffer in misery. When Ông Két’s beak completely turns towards Núi Cấm, that day the times will change. The four directions of heaven and earth will shake, and three thunderclaps will awaken Ông Két in the sky, Ông Năm Chèo in the water, and Ông Hổ Mây on land, to punish the wicked and those who do not cultivate virtue.

At that time, Núi Cấm will erupt, golden palaces and jade halls will emerge, and that will also be when Phật Di Lặc (Maitreya Buddha) descends to earth, opens the Hội Long Hoa (Dragon Flower Assembly), and transforms living beings. The world will officially enter the beautiful Thượng Ngươn period“.
In your opinion, will the prophecy of Phật Thầy Tây An actually come true, or are they just words to teach people how to live righteously?
In my opinion, whether Ông Két Mountain turning towards Núi Cấm is just normal geological changes or truly a spiritual omen in the Thất Sơn region as the prophecy mentioned above, this mystical story also carries the meaning of teaching people to live well, cultivate themselves, accumulate virtue, and that good deeds will be rewarded.
Besides, in my opinion, everyone should approach this story with a more open mind, and not be too attached and blindly believe, to avoid being led by some groups into the path of superstition and irrational beliefs.
