Where is Ong Ket Mountain Located?
An Giang province is famous for its seven beautiful, majestic, and significant mountains, collectively known as That Son (Seven Mountains). Ket Mountain, also called Anh Vu Son, is part of the mystical That Son range, specifically within the Thoi Son range, located in Tinh Bien District, An Giang Province.
Why Is It Called Ket Mountain or Ong Ket Mountain?
At an elevation of about 100 meters on the western face of Anh Vu Son, there’s a huge rock jutting out. From a distance, it looks just like a parakeet’s beak, which is why it earned this familiar name. Additionally, the name Ket Mountain is also tied to a mysterious legend that locals have passed down for many generations.
How Tall is Ong Ket Mountain?
Ong Ket Mountain stands at an elevation of 225 meters and offers breathtaking scenic views. The entrance fee for adults is approximately 30,000 VND per person, and 10,000 VND for children under 1.2 meters tall. If you arrive by motorbike, the parking fee is 10,000 VND per motorbike. The path up Ket Mountain is not overly difficult, yet it boasts beautiful landscapes and numerous spiritual sites to visit.
The Legend of Ong Ket Mountain Turning Towards Cam Mountain
As mentioned earlier, it’s called Ket Mountain because a large, upright rock juts out from the mountain, resembling the head of a giant parakeet. For people in the Mekong Delta, due to the sacred and mysterious stories associated with this place, they often refer to it with the more reverent name, Ong Ket Mountain. Elders often tell their descendants the enigmatic tale of Ong Ket Mountain turning its head. Each year, the “parakeet’s beak” on the mountaintop gradually shifts. When Ket Mountain’s direction fully faces Cam Mountain, the times will change, and people may encounter either great fortune or great disaster.
Rarely has any place in That Son been imprinted with the presence of so many spiritual masters as Ong Ket Mountain. The mountain features numerous caves, secluded from the outside world, making them ideal for spiritual practice.
Around Ket Mountain, one can still find traces of Buddha Master (Phat Thay), Master Tay An (the founder of Buu Son Ky Huong), Cu Cu Da, and more. The historical text Gia Dinh Thanh even recorded:
“In Nam Vi Mountain, trees flourish, deep streams and dense grass abound, with many deer, stags, tigers, and leopards… And in Khe San (Khe Lap) Mountain, pine and bamboo trees thrive, deer and stags gather… people often come to this mountain to seek benefit. Furthermore, phoenixes and crows also reside here…”

What’s Fun to Do at Ket Mountain?
The Path to Ong Ket’s Beak
To reach Ong Ket’s Beak, you’ll need to ascend about 100 meters, a climb that takes roughly 20 minutes. From here, you can take in the vast, expansive natural scenery, including wide-open rice fields surrounded by majestic, towering mountain ranges.
Tien Well Beach
You can also visit Tien Well Beach, a place steeped in legends of blessings from deities. The well is deep inside a cave, and though its source is unknown, it never dries up and its water is crystal clear and refreshingly cool year-round. Visitors from far and wide also spread the word that washing your hands at the well will bring good luck and peace.
U Minh Temple
Ong Ket Mountain in An Giang is home to many temples and places of worship. Among them, visitors often stop at U Minh Temple. To reach the temple, visitors must navigate along rocky slopes beside deep chasms, winding through dark nooks and crannies to enter the heart of the mountain. U Minh Temple is dedicated to Diem Vuong (Yama, the King of Hell). In front of the temple, there are statues of pythons and other fierce images meant to deter wrongdoers.
