The Cu Chi Tunnels are a strategic base closely associated with the resistance war against the French during the period from 1946 to 1948. This construction was carried out jointly by the soldiers and people of Tan Phu Trung and Phuoc Vinh An communes to help troops hide, store weapons and equipment, and wait for an opportunity to counterattack.

Initially, each person and each area dug a separate tunnel. Later, for convenient travel and transportation of food and weapons, and to ensure secrecy and avoid enemy forces, the tunnels were connected to each other, creating a continuous tunnel system.

The entire Cu Chi Tunnels have a total length of 250km. The tunnels are divided into 3 different depths. The highest level is 3m below the ground, the middle level is 6m, and the deepest level is 12m. In addition to the area for troops to live and store weapons, the Cu Chi Tunnels are also divided into many branches with areas for nail pits, spike traps, minefields, etc.

Expected Implementation of Many Novel and Attractive Night Tours at the Cu Chi Tunnels

Specifically, the Cu Chi night tour aims to attract visitors with the experience of visiting the tunnels in the darkness of night. The tour uses moonlight as the main theme, recreating the nighttime life of the Cu Chi people living in the liberated zone with activities such as digging tunnels, weaving under the moonlight, young people enlisting to fight the enemy, grinding rice, husking rice, boys and girls singing call-and-response songs in the fields, market gatherings, and cultural performances serving soldiers, guerrillas, and the people, all blending with the sounds of bombs, artillery, and enemy aircraft patrols.

The program is divided into two main parts. From 6:00 PM to 6:50 PM, visitors will see a sand table and a 3D film re-enacting the Cedar Falls operation in 1967. From 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM, visitors will enjoy an art program themed “Moonlight in the War Zone” and have free time for food and drinks at the night market. The ticket price is 399,000 VND per person.

The tour currently lasts just over 2 hours, from 6:00 PM to 8:40 PM, and mainly targets domestic tourists because the majority of the program’s content is dialogue-based theater, with dialogue using local dialects combined with a realistic setting. Therefore, if translated into other languages, it would be difficult to fully convey the message, and foreign tourists would not be able to feel the heroic historical atmosphere of our country.
